Global IP and New Interfaces

The world is changing in many ways, which are also reflected in the intellectual property (IP) system. New interfaces are created by new technology, its applications and business models, and by social attitudes: collective rights collide with individual pursuits, harmonisation of international and national IPR laws involves tensions, competition law and right holders’ claims are challenged by citizens’ fundamental rights to receive and impart information and to freedom of speech.

Moreover, the very forms of IPR protection are in a state of transformation. Does this development challenge the bedrock of the IP principles laid out more than 100 years ago?

IPR University Center (University of Helsinki) wants to give a contribution to this debate by organising an international conference on 16-17 April 2010 at Cultural Centre Sofia, Helsinki. Global IP and New Interfaces will continue the discussions started at the “Nordic Network Meeting” of researchers on 15-16 April in the same premises.

The keynote speakers of the Conference are renowned international specialists. On Saturday, 17 April, junior researchers / post- graduate students are invited to present their studies. Those wishing to give a paper should send an abstract not later than 24 March 2010 to Professor Bruun by e-mail: niklas.bruun@helsinki.fi

Please see the programme below. Latest information on the Conference and its arrangements (registration, accommodation) can always be found on this web site.
